Who We Are

A Brief Overview

A Metaphysical Society had been meeting in each other's homes in Pasadena when they decided that they needed a more formal structure. They found their ideal leader in Dr. Albert C. Grier, a frequent speaker for the group. For twenty years, Dr. Grier had been a minister in the Universalist Church. On February 10, 1910, a little pamphlet came into his hands which healed and changed his life. Thus, by 1913, Dr. Grier broke from the traditions of the past and formed the first Church of the Truth in Spokane, Washington. He spread his teachings tomany places in the United States and England.

In 1924, Dr. Grier accepted leadership of The Church of the Truth in Pasadena. On November 26, 1924, charter membership was closed with a total of 75 members who started meeting on Summit Street in Pasadena. In 1925, Dr.Grier was called to New York to form another Church of the Truth in that city. He asked Rev. H. Edward Mills, a long-time friend, to take the pulpit of the newly established church in Pasadena. In 1929, the church moved to its present location on Orange Grove Boulevard. Rev. Mills' energy and clear vision not only established the church in its ownbuilding but produced fundamental principles of Truth. The songs, words and music in his hymnal are primarily theresult of Rev. Mills' inspiration. Rev. Mills passed away suddenly in 1936. He was succeeded by his wife, Rev. Mary Mills, who resigned in 1940.

Most recently we have been taught and blessed by several New Thought teachers and practitioners. As we have grown spiritually through these teachings and practices, we embrace our new name, PASADENA NEW THOUGHT CENTER which reflects our ever expanding consciousness.
